Morocco 2025 African Cup Of Nations: Morocco, Comoros meet in opening game

Nigeria was yesterday drawn in Group C of the Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where they will face old foes, Tunisia, Uganda and Tanzania in the opening round.

Tunisia is Nigeria’s old foes with the Carthage Eagles accounting for the Super Eagles exit in the second round of the Cameroon 2019 edition of the competition.

Perhaps, the most popular encounter between Nigeria and Tunisia was in 1977 where a Godwin Odiye own goal gave the Carthage Eagles 1-0 defeat of the Green Eagles in their last qualifying game for the Argentina 1978 World Cup.

Yesterday’s draws revealed that Morocco, who are in Group A, will play in the opening game of the championship against newcomers, Comoros Island, on December 21. Other teams in Group A are Mali and Zambia.

In Group B are Egypt, South Africa, Angola and Zimbabwe, while Group D has Senegal, DR Congo, Benin Republic and Botswana.

Algeria, Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea and Sudan make up Group E, while defending champions, Cote d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Gabon and Mozambique are in Group F.

The draw, conducted at Mohammed V National Theatre in Rabat, Morocco, was anchored by Nigeria’s Samson Adamu, who was assisted by six legends of African football, including former Super Eagles’ captain, Joseph Yobo.

The Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations will hold from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026.
