Morning transfer news: Phil Hay drops huge Leeds update; Orta working on move for 'goal threat'

The Athletic‘s Leeds United correspondent Phil Hay has revealed that the Whites are tracking RB Salzburg right-back Rasmus Kristensen.

The 24-year-old Denmark international primarily plays at right-back but can also operate as a right midfielder and is valued at a career-high £13.5m by Transfermarkt.

Described as a ‘goal threat’ by Salzburg boss Matthias Jaissle, Kristensen has made 107 appearances for the club, scoring 13 times and registering 19 assists. Jesse Marsch signed Kristensen from Ajax while in charge of the Austrian champions in 2019, and it looks as if a reunion could be on the cards at Elland Road.

Hay shared a story for The Athletic early on Tuesday morning, looking at Victor Orta’s transfer plans at Leeds after signing Brenden Aaronson.

The reliable journalist revealed that the Whites have been following Kristensen, who is expected to leave Salzburg ahead of the 2022/23 campaign. Borussia Dortmund and Brentford have also been linked with the full-back, who would cost around £10m.

Kristensen appears to be an exciting target who Marsch knows extremely well. He turned out on 64 occasions for Salzburg under the Leeds head coach, scoring four times and providing 11 assists.

The right-back won consecutive league and cup doubles in Austria under the 48-year-old and could duly be the ideal man to come in, especially with Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas out injured for several months.

Kristensen will also be able to play further forward as a right midfielder if required, and a £10m fee in today’s market (£3.5m less than his Transfermarkt valuation) appears to be a bargain for such a player.
