Morgan Gibbs-White highlights how Sheffield United can gain ground in Championship play-off race

Morgan Gibbs-White has hailed Sheffield United supporters for playing their part in the club’s late push for Premier League promotion. The Blades extended their unbeaten home run to 10 games with a 2-0 victory against Barnsley at Bramall Lane. Gibbs-White grabbed the second to secure all three points and fire his side up to fifth in the Championship.

Another home win means United are still yet to lose on home soil under Paul Heckingbottom - an astonishing feat considering where the club was when he took over in November. Loanee midfielder Gibbs-White - who has been instrumental to the Blades’ success this season - believes the supporters have given the team ‘a massive push’ in recent months.

“Yeah, you can see in our performances (that playing at home helps),” he told SUTV. “It is noticeable every time we go away. It's always a tough pitch, always a scrappy game. But when we come here, the crowd is just behind us 100% and it definitely gives us that massive, massive push.

“Even away from home, to be fair to the fans. They always travel (and show their) support. They're a great group of fans. We just can't ask for anything more from them but to continue to support us.”

Gibbs-White will now link up with the England U21 squad for their European qualifiers against Andorra and Albania. However, the youngster insists his key priority is to get Sheff Utd back to the top flight.

He added: “It gives you the confidence to go there, try to impress and play games for England. It's always an honour to put an England shirt on but obviously the main focus is to get Sheffield back up.”
