Moreeng's role in doubt? CSA have much to discuss as dust settles on Proteas women's World Cup feat

Cricket South Africa (CSA) director of cricket, Enoch Nkwe, says that they will reassess coach Hilton Moreeng's coaching role, regardless of the Proteas' finishing runners-up in Women's T20 World Cup.

Moreeng has been at the helm of the Proteas women's side since 2013 and has been at the heart of the team's success over the last decade.

The 45-year-old's contract is scheduled to expire at the end of the season, with the Proteas women having a six-month break from international competition.

Moreeng guided the Proteas women to an historic ICC World Cup final when they became the first senior South African side to reach a cricket World Cup decider.

South Africa fell 19 runs short at a sold-out Newlands, which saw defending champions Australia claim their sixth T20 World Cup title.

At a CSA History-Makers press conference at OR Tambo International Airport on Wednesday, Nkwe said that discussions over the head coach role will be held in the next few months.

"I think, at the moment, let's celebrate the success of the team. Look, there are still discussions that still need to take place in terms of the way forward," he told reporters.

"I still need to engage with the coach in terms of how he feels, how he sees it, and the rest of the management team. Then we'll make the final decisions in terms of, strategically, how everything fits in for the next two years with the World Cup, obviously around the corner, the T20 one next year and then the 2025 World Cup.

"There's not much time, but at least we have three months to have some sort of clarity, strategically moving forward."
