Morecambe make managerial announcement

The club have announced Robinson’s departure on their official club website.

The 47-year old will now join Scottish side St Mirren as their new manager following discussions between the two clubs on Monday.

Robinson’s assistant manager Diarmuid O’Carroll has also parted ways with the club as he will also be joining St Mirren.

The club showed their gratitude for both men for their time with Morecambe, stating: “We would like to thank Stephen and Diarmuid for their work since joining the Club in June 2021.”

Barry Roche is set to take charge of the team on an interim basis as the side prepares for tonight’s game with Rotherham.

The club also confirmed the process for finding a new manager is underway.

Robinson has left the club with the side 21st in the League One table.

The Shrimps were in the middle of a five game winless run, their last victory coming against Wycombe Wanderers on January 22.

Following the game against league leaders Rotherham, Morecambe have fixtures with Ipswich Town and Plymouth Argyle who are both chasing play-off contention.

Robinson only took over the newly promoted side at the start of the Summer.

But he was doing an okay job with the club as they fought for their survival in the division.

It was only in recent weeks that their form reached a particular low point, with some tricky upcoming fixtures that are now crucial to their relegation battle.

Morecambe will want to find a replacement quickly, otherwise they could find themselves leaving the new appointment with too much to do in terms of staying in League One.
