More than a dozen people assessed by medics amid Trafford Park chemical leak

More than a dozen people have been assessed by medics amid a reported chemical leak in Trafford Park this morning.

A huge emergency services response was sparked following the incident on Tenax Road at around 9.30am. The Manchester Evening News understands the suspected chemical leak is in the Lanxess building, with the chemical believed to be phosphorus oxychloride.

A major incident was declared, with a huge 300m cordon remaining in place and residents living nearby urged to keep their windows and doors closed. In an update posted just after 11.30am, the North West Ambulance Service said more than a dozen people had been assessed by medics on the scene.

None of them required any further treatment. 'All potential patients' have been accounted for in the building.

The NWAS statement said: "At 09.30 this morning, following reports of a chemical leak at an industrial site on Tenax Road, Trafford Park, Manchester, North West Ambulance Service enacted its major incident protocol and sent multiple resources to the scene. This includes its Hazardous Area Response Team and Operational Commanders.

"Very quickly, we have been able to account for all potential patients, assessing more than a dozen people. Nobody has required further treatment.

"Residents and businesses are being advised to keep all windows and doors closed while emergency services work to contain the situation."

The Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust also urged residents to 'avoid the scene' in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 9am today (Monday 4 March 2024), GMP received reports of a hazmat incident at a business premises on Tenax Road in Trafford Park.
