More rain forecast on Bank Holiday Monday after thunderstorm hits Greater Manchester

More rain is forecast to fall over Greater Manchester on Bank Holiday Monday.

Our region was hit by downpours as a thunderstorm swept over the UK yesterday, just as thousands descended on Manchester city centre to celebrate the Manchester City bus parade. A Met Office yellow thunderstorm warning was in place until 8pm last night as thunder and lightning struck.

A number of lanes were closed on the region's motorways as the rain caused flooding. Today (May 27), forecasters predict that our region will see more rain showers with some expected to turn heavy at times.

Amid some cloudy conditions and sunny spells, showers are forecast for much of the late morning and early afternoon. The rain may turn heavy at around 1pm, forecasters predict.

Temperatures will reach a high of around 14C in Manchester today. More rain is then forecast for Tuesday with heavy downpours expected in the afternoon.

Over Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, light showers are predicted amid some cloudy spells and sunny intervals. On the overall weather outlook for the Bank Holiday weekend, forecasters said a 'typical springtime mix of weather' was likely for the UK.
