More praise for engineer Schmitz as Red Bull principal tributes F1 team's 'girl power'

Red Bull boss Christian Horner credited Principal Strategy Engineer Hannah Schmitz for the great work done at the 2022 Hungarian Grand Prix, helping Max Verstappen win, having started the race from 10th on the grid.

The result now means that Verstappen has an 80 points lead over second-placed Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc heading into the Formula 1 summer break, while in the Constructors' championship, Red Bull leads Ferrari by 97 points.

Verstappen's teammate Sergio Perez finished Sunday's race in fifth place, having started in 11th position.

A great team

In an interview carried by the F1 official website, Horner was full of praise for the work done by team strategist Schmitz, who he singled out as being behind Verstappen's victory.

"We've got a great strategy team here and back in Milton Keynes, Hannah Schmitz running the strategy on the pit wall today," Horner said. "We're all supporters of girl power.

"She's fantastic; the whole team is. It's not just about one person. The pit stops today again were dynamite. Just the way the whole team is working is a joy to see."

The Red Bull boss added that had it not been for the timing of the Virtual Safety Car, then Perez could have even done better than claiming fifth place as he was driving really well at the time.

Horner said: "I made a joke. I said: 'Checo's gone on holiday already', and he went and told everybody! Look, look at Checo's race in the second half today. I think without that VSC he'd have been challenging for the podium.
