More bin problems in Bolton as Covid continues to cause issues

Bin collection issues continue to plague residents of Bolton as staffing issues rumble on.

A photo taken from Avondale Road, in Farnworth, shows a number of burgundy bins left outside homes, despite collection day being last Friday (February 4).

Burgundy bins - for glass, cans and high grade plastics - are supposed to be collected every two weeks.

Last week, Manchester Evening News reported that 78 streets in the borough saw at least one of their bins skipped during Monday's waste collection round - with most of the issues being in Westhoughton.

Bolton Council blamed Covid-19 for the staffing issues and stressed that 'the vast majority' of collections are being completed.

A council spokesman said: “Although we continue to successfully deploy the vast majority of our collection teams we are still unfortunately, experiencing some COVID related staffing issues.

“We will continue to do our upmost to maintain expected service levels whilst we navigate through this difficult period.

“We would like to thank residents for their continued understanding, support and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
