Monaghan manager Vinny Corey steps down

Monaghan are on the hunt for a new manager for their senior footballers after Vinny Corey stepped down from the position.

Corey took charge of Monaghan in September 2022 having previously worked as a selector with the Oriel County for Séamus McEnaney.

Monaghan's first season under Corey’s stewardship was a successful one, making their way to the All-Ireland semi-final where they were narrowly edged out by Dublin.

Corey oversaw victory over Dublin this campaign in the league, but that was as good as things got for the county as they were relegated from Division 1.

A six-point defeat to Cavan ended Monaghan's interest in the Ulster Championship in the opening round, while a draw with Louth and a win over Meath was enough to see them progress from the All-Ireland group stage, they were beaten by Galway in the quarter-finals.

Monaghan GAA issued a press release on Monday night, which read: "Monaghan GAA would like to express its sincere appreciation to Vinny for his unwavering service to Monghan GAA over the last 22 years, 18 as a player, 2 as a selector and 2 years at the helm as senior manager.

"We are very thankful for Vinny's outstanding support and commitment to Monaghan GAA over the years and appreciate his contributions made as player, selector & manager.

"Monaghan GAA fully respects Vinny's decision to step down and wishes him continued success in future endeavours."
