Micheál Donoghue will become Galway manager on four-year term

Micheál Donoghue will take charge of Galway's hurlers for a second time after he was recommended by the county’s management committee for the role.

Donoghue, who left Dublin following the end of this year’s All-Ireland hurling championship, will be appointed on a four-year term at a meeting on Monday night.

Donoghue managed Galway to an All-Ireland title in 2017 in the highlight of his first spell with the county.

They lost an All-Ireland final to Limerick in 2018, having already claimed a second Leinster title in succession that summer.

He left in 2019 after a surprise defeat to Dublin, the team that would go on to appoint him as their manager in 2022.

They reached the Leinster final this year, again with a win over the Tribesman.

An admirable performance in the All-Ireland quarter-finals saw them exit against eventual finalists Cork, losing by just five points.

He had one year remaining on his term with Dublin but opted to resign three weeks ago.

Now he will rejoin Galway for the next four years.

A statement from Galway GAA read: "Micheál and his management team will be put forward for a four-year term at Monday night’s County Committee meeting.

"We look forward to working closely with Micheál and his management team and wish them all the very best in the years ahead."
