Monaghan hurlers forfeit two wins in Lory Meagher Cup
The Monaghan hurlers have had their Lory Meagher Cup wins over Cavan and Louth cancelled due to fielding an ineligible player.
The Farney men had been top of the table in the fifth-tier championship after also beating Leitrim a fortnight ago but now drop to fourth on scoring difference. They host Longford in the competition on Saturday.
Under GAA rules, the fixtures are considered completed with no result, rather than Cavan and Louth being given walkovers.
The GAA said that Monaghan had accepted the penalty and added that in the event of Monaghan-Louth or Monaghan-Cavan finishing in second place and tied on equal points with each other only, a play-off would be required to see who progresses to the final.
In a three-way or greater tie, scoring difference will still apply to separate teams.
