Monaco GP: Max Verstappen congratulates Sergio Perez on Monte-Carlo victory

Max Verstappen has sent his congratulations to Sergio Perez on the back of the Mexican’s fine win around the streets of Monte-Carlo.

The Dutchman could not get ahead of his team-mate over the course of the weekend, with Perez having the upper hand in every practice session, qualifying and the race.

Indeed, Perez looked super motivated to bounce back after seeing the Spanish Grand Prix win evade him and he duly delivered with a fine drive through the chaos that was a wet/dry, delayed, Monaco Grand Prix.

Verstappen, meanwhile, could only finish third but in doing so he still finished ahead of Charles Leclerc and in terms of the championship that is obviously a big positive.

Speaking after the race, Max had this to say:

“First of all congratulations to Checo, he did an incredible job today.

“As a Team we did a really great job, we managed a good strategy. Of course finishing third for me is not ideal but I wasn’t able to improve my lap time yesterday so that’s just how it goes.

“In the heat of the battle and with the hectic start, we stayed calm as a Team, we made good decisions. The strategy paid off with Checo winning so that was the biggest positive of the day.

“I’m really proud of the Team effort this weekend and to get two cars onto the podium.”

F1 now goes on a break for a week before returning to another street circuit in the form of Baku for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix – a race that saw Perez take his first win as a Red Bull driver last year.
