Moment dad is arrested at Manchester Airport after touching down from Greece holiday

This footage captured the moment a dad was arrested as he touched down at Manchester Airport following a holiday in Greece.

Thomas Whitehead was escorted off the Ryanair flight just moments after it landed. The video showed the plane being surrounded by police at it arrived at Manchester on August 13, Lancs Live reports.

Officers removed Whitehead from the aircraft before the dad-of-three was put into a police van. He was then taken straight into police custody before being jailed for his involvement in violent scenes in Southport.

The 53-year-old, who worked as a gardener, was locked up for 20 months after he became embroiled in scenes of disorder in the seaside town on July 30. The disorder broke out after three little girls were fatally stabbed at a dance class.

Liverpool Crown Court heard how Whitehead was 'seen in and amongst the large group' that gathered outside a mosque. Prosecutor Rebecca Smith said his picture was circulated and he was arrested two weeks later at the airport while still on board the plane.

During questioning, the self-employed man told detectives that he had 'been at a public house and noticed a large group gathering and went to see what was happening'. Whitehead 'accepted throwing an item' but claimed he 'didn't believe it had hit any of the officers'.

He had 18 previous convictions for 47 offences between 1987 and 1998. His lawyer, Paul Wood, told the court hearing: "He is a family man and he is a working man.

"He had gone to the vigil. He does not know what on Earth took hold of him when he threw that one missile. He is absolutely distraught with what he has done."
