Molineux transfer news: Caleta-Car tipped to be 'back on Wolves' radar' this summer

Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car could be a ‘more realistic option’ for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer than he was in the winter window, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Wolves endured a relatively quiet January, bringing in 21-year-old winger ChiquinhofromEstorilbefore turning Hee-chan Hwang’s loan spell from RB Leipzig into a permanent move.

According to The Telegraph, though, Bruno Lage wanted to make three new additions to his first-team squad last month as he sort to mould his side into his desired image.

However, the club’s owners Fosun refused to bankroll any major signings and the Portuguese tactician was told he would have to raise his own funds to bring in his top targets.

It seemed as though Lage would have some room to manoeuvre as Adama Traore was heavily tipped to complete a £20 million move to Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

But the player wasn’t keen on making the switch to north London and instead re-signed for boyhood club Barcelona on a loan deal until the end the which includes an option to buy for £29m.

That could mean that Lage has a much healthier budget to work with when the market re-opens, allowing him to potentially revive his interest in certain players.

With Romain Saiss, Conor Coady and Max Kilman the only centre-backs on Wolves’ books, Lage admitted that ‘three is not enough’ and that he wants to ‘improve’ his options in that area of the pitch.

According to Sky Sports (via Molineux News), the Midlands outfit were interest in signing Caleta-Car to solves their defensive woes, although no formal offer ever materialised.

Nevertheless, O’Rourke believes the 25-year-old could still become a Wolves player in the summer.
