Mokwena commits long-term future to Sundowns with new contract

Mamelodi Sundowns have announced that head coach Rulani Mokwena has officially committed his future to the club with a captivating new four-year deal.

"Masandawana, we are delighted to announce that our head coach, Rulani Mokwena, has signed a 4-year contract extension," the club confirmed on their official Twitter account.

Mokwena, 36, has expertly guided the Brazilians to an unprecedented sixth consecutive DStv Premiership title, while falling short in his quest for the CAF Champions League and Nedbank Cup.

Initial reports circulated whispers of a delay in securing Mokwena's contract extension, with talks allegedly snagging on his demands concerning the technical team.

However, the respected coach swiftly dismissed these speculations, firmly aligning himself with the club's vision and sealing the deal with a signature on Tuesday.

October witnessed a momentous shift within the club's ranks, prompted by a turbulent period.

Following a series of 15 matches, showcasing a commendable record of 10 victories, two draws, and three defeats across all competitions, the team suffered a devastating 3-0 loss to their rivals Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 semi-final second leg, leading to an unfortunate end to their cup aspirations.

In a bid to reinvigorate their technical setup, the club took bold action, dissolving the co-coaching partnership of Mokwena and Mngqithi.

Mokwena ascended to the coveted head coach position, while Mngqithi assumed the role of senior coach.
