"Mistake from Chelsea" - Journalist drops claim as "loud voice" could now leave Stamford Bridge

Allowing Antonio Rudiger to leave this summer could prove a “mistake” by Chelsea, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

The 50-cap Germany international is out of contract at the end of the season, and his future at Stamford Bridge remains in serious doubt.

Having established himself as one of the top defenders in the Premier League since Thomas Tuchel became Chelsea manager last January, Rudiger has some of the biggest clubs in Europe on his radar.

Back in January when the defender was able to discuss a move to a foreign club, Sky Sports reported that Real Madrid, PSG, Bayern, and Juventus had all opened talks with the German, who played a key part in the Blues’ Champions League success last season.

Chelsea are still hoping to tie Rudiger down to a new contract, but they’ve been unable to convince him to extend his stay in West London.

Meanwhile, the Stamford Bridge outfit now unable to offer players new deals after ex-owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government, Chelsea’s hopes of keeping Rudiger are diminishing.

Following his incredible impact over the last 18 months, Brown reckons that Rudiger leaving the club would be a massive blow.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think because he’s such a leader in the dressing room and a loud voice, allowing him to leave might prove a mistake from Chelsea, but because of the ownership situation, they’re not in a position to offer or agree a new contract anyway, and it’s clear that his people are talking to clubs around Europe.”
