Minster 1 Halls Athletic 1 (AET): DFDS Kent Intermediate Challenge Shield Final -Minster win 3-1 on penalties
Goalkeeper Magnus Lewis pulled off three penalty shootout saves to help Minster clinch the Kent Intermediate Challenge Shield.
A stoppage-time equaliser from Minster substitute John Argyrides had sent the Shield final into extra-time after Tom Cecil had put Halls in front.
With no more goals between the Kent County Premier Division rivals, the tie went to penalties where Lewis was the hero.
Triston Jevons and Harry Alexander - with a retaken effort - also scored in the shootout and Dan Adams netted with the winner but Minster manager Ian Wallace spoke about a team effort and the character from his side.
He said: “The boys have got something they earned, they deserved it.
“I thought game-wise we were much the better team in the second half of extra-time but our club is all about character and they showed that in abundance, they always do.
“We knew we had to stick in the game, we knew we could make changes, we knew that if it was last minute we could make ourselves a chance and we showed that.
“We always show our character, that is the most important thing about our club, our character and our heritage, where we come from, that gives them the opportunity to have those moments where they can enjoy it together.
“We have had a few setbacks in the last few years, things not always going our way, but they can enjoy that now and it’s not just those 16 either, there were other lads who are part of the squad, part of the club, we have three men’s teams that are all part of this, youth teams, vets teams, you do it for days like these, I was delighted.”
Halls had won the KCL Premier Division title but Minster - who finished seventh - were more than a match on the day at Chatham’s Bauvill Stadium.
Wallace said: “Halls have had a
