Minister may declare Presidency’s stance on Federation’s polls today

Sports Minister, Sunday Dare, is expected to state the government’s stance on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) election, which is being threatened by a court action instituted by Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN), today.

The election has been programmed to hold in Benin on September 30. Yesterday, the minister met in Abuja with all the candidates to the various positions on their programme for the polls.

According to one of the aspirants, who attended the meeting, the minister will release a statement on the election today, following the parley with the candidates.

“The court case against the election is also expected to be vacated today to ensure that nothing stands in the way of a peaceful and fair polls.

“At the meeting, the candidates pledged to abide by the rules of the game and accept the outcome of the election,” the candidates told The Guardian.

Already, the NFF Election Committee has assured that it is ready to conduct a free and fair polls, saying that everything has been put in place to conduct a successful exercise.

The committee recently announced the list of candidates, who are qualified to vie for positions in the election. It disqualified two of the presidential aspirants, Marcellinus Anyanwu (South East, Imo) and Paul Yusuf (North Central, Plateau).

Three of the 11 cleared contestants are members of the current board, which is led by Pinnick.They are the current NFF First Vice President Seyi Akinwunmi; the current Second Vice President/and defunct LMC Chairman, Shehu Dikko, and the current Chairman of Chairmen, Ibrahim Musa Gusau.
