Mindhunter fans make same demand as Netflix announce new Holt McCallany project

Mindhunter's Holt McCallany is working on a new Netflix project - and fans appear divided. The streaming giant confirmed McCallany would star in upcoming family drama series The Waterfront, written and produced by Kevin Williamson.

Williamson is behind horror classics like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. He also co-created beloved teen drama series Dawson’s Creek and The Vampire Diaries.

McCallany previously starred as FBI agent Bill Tench in crime drama Mindhunter, which ran on Netflix for two seasons between 2017 and 2019. In January 2020, Netflix announced that the potential for a third season was on indefinite hold as showrunner David Fincher wanted to pursue other projects, but may "revisit [the series] in the future". Last February, he confirmed that the series was officially over.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, to announce the new project, Netflix posted a photo of McCallany and said: "The Waterfront, starring Holt McCallany and from creator Kevin Williamson, is coming to Netflix. Inspired by true events, the series follows a flawed family driving themselves to dangerous means to keep their crumbling North Carolina fishing empire afloat."

Some fans were excited by the news. One wrote: "This sounds gripping! Can't wait to watch it" as another agreed: "Wow that's a great comeback."

But others were still hung up on Mindhunter. One fan wrote: "Great! Now bring him back on Mindhunter" as another added: "The headline we deserved…. Holt McCallany returning for 3rd and Final season of Mindhunter… please stop with new shows when we deserve wrap ups to unfinished projects already".
