Analysis by think-tank Policy in Practice reveals that nearly £23 billion in income-related benefits and social tariffs go unclaimed annually.
The organisation's goal is "maximise the income for low income households, making access to the welfare system simpler, fairer, and more efficient". MSE.com dissected the report, highlighting that approximately 1.4 million individuals might not be claiming Universal Credit, around 1.1 million pensioners could claim Attendance Allowance, and about 760,000 others might be eligible for Pension Credit.
Furthermore, MSE.com points out potential Carer's Allowance claims for an estimated 530,000 people and substantial Council Tax savings unclaimed by an astonishing 2.25 million Great Britain households, each potentially missing out on up to £850 yearly. It's a particularly important reminder for those on low incomes, with health conditions or disabilities, supporting families or dealing with recent bereavement that they might qualify for extra financial aid, reports the Daily Record.
