Mikel Arteta: When nan attempted to take a better penalty than Arsenal man in 2014

Mikel Arteta had a superb career as a professional footballer.

The Spaniard was an elegant midfielder with supreme technical ability.

He was very calm with the ball at his feet and very rarely lost his cool.

His technical ability, combined with his calmness under pressure, meant he was a superb penalty taker.

Per Transfermarkt, Arteta took 31 penalties in his professional career, scoring 27 times and missing on just four occasions.

Despite being a brilliant penalty taker, one football fan in 2014, while Arteta was at Arsenal, thought that their grandmother was better. Yes, seriously.

Twitter user @JoeWilson1988 tweeted Paddy Power, saying: “I reckon my nan can take a better penalty than Arteta.”

And Paddy Power thought it would be funny to put that claim to the test.

They managed to track down the Twitter user’s ‘nan’ and got her and Arteta to take a penalty.
