Mikel Arteta sends message to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang amid Chelsea transfer speculation

Mikel Arteta hopes Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would get a good reception at the Emirates Stadium if he returns to the Premier League.

The former Gunners captain had the armband removed last year and he left the north London club in early February.

Aubameyang then joined Barcelona on a free transfer, but his position in the team may come under threat given the club have signed the prolific Robert Lewandowksi.

Chelsea are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing the striker, however, the player is said to want to stay at Camp Nou.

Amazon Prime’s All or Nothing documentary detailing Arsenal’s 2021/22 campaign has showcased the fallout of the Aubameyang captaincy saga.

When asked if he has any regrets over the handling of the Aubameyang situation, Arteta replied: ‘It’s a long time since that happened. I cannot go back each time there is a series.

‘I have made my comments on that, I was clearly clear and honest on my opinion

‘What has been done has to defend the club and put it in the best possible position.’

The Gunners boss did, however, describe Aubameyang as an ‘exceptional player’ and thanked him for what he did for the club.

‘Auba is an exceptional player. He did so much for us,’ Arteta added.

‘He was our captain and I think we have to be very grateful for what he did for this club.’
