MIKE: New trailer for the Mike Tyson biopic series looks unreal

Biopics appear to be greatly in fashion at the moment, and it was only a matter of time before the iconic ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson got a representation of his eventful life and career on the big screen.

The former undisputed heavyweight world champion is being played by Trevante Rhodes in the upcoming Hulu docu-series ‘MIKE’ that will air from August 25.

The two-minute trailer that has recently been released has got boxing fans around the world very excited to see the biopic, which appears to depict Tyson’s whole life story from his difficult childhood to the dizzying heights of his international fame.

The eight-episode limited series comes from the same creative team that were behind ‘Pam & Tommy’, which has just received 10 Emmy nominations. And based on the incredible ‘MIKE’ trailer, it wouldn’t be surprising if the boxing biopic receives the same level of applause and credit.

Regarding the angle that will be taken towards the legendary boxer’s controversial life, showrunner Karen Gist has claimed: “We were never trying to say that Mike Tyson is a hero or Mike Tyson is a villain. Our goal was to take a very complicated and controversial figure and try to get under the hood of what he was praised and vilified for while staying true to our North Star of ‘no one person is one thing.’”

The series itself has not been stranger to controversy, however, with Tyson having publicly condemned Hulu for the creation of the series without his consent or participation, and for providing no compensation to the boxer himself.
