“Might be on the cards” – Nottingham Forest fan pundit weighs up next steps for Alex Mighten at the City Ground

Regardless of whether Forest earn promotion to the Premier League or not, Oldham has admitted that a move away to another Championship, or perhaps even League One, side could be beneficial for the youngster’s development. 

While Oldham was quick to point out Cooper’s fondness for using young players in the team, the Forest fan believes that there may be too many attacking options available in the team next season for Mighten to earn the playing time he needs.

Oldham also revealed that Mighten’s performances haven’t quite convinced him that he is ready to become a consistent starter in a promotion-chasing side. 

“Should Forest still be in the Championship next season, I think a loan move for Alex Mighten might be on the cards,” Oldham told Football League World.

“However, it would depend on what attacking options Forest retain in the summer.

“Steve Cooper likes to work with young players so he might see someone he can develop.

“Mighten is a real raw talent, who can impact games but when he starts he tends to drift in and out and his consistency is not quite there.

“Perhaps building some confidence in a lower Championship or League One side might just be the boost in his career he needs.”

The 19-year old has looked promising in the chances he has been given for Forest so far. 

The American-born winger has started four Championship games this season, making a further 16 appearances from the bench.

Mighten may find himself moving up the pecking order at Forest if Cooper cannot lead the side to the top flight.

It could be a summer of upheaval at the top end of the pitch should the Reds not earn promotion which could open up space for Mighten in the team.

But, more likely, a loan move will be sought after for the promising
