Midfielder previously linked with Bolton Wanderers transfer expected to leave League Two club

AFC Wimbledon midfielder Anthony Hartigan who was linked with a move to Bolton Wanderers midway through last season is expected to move on to pastures new this summer despite being offered a fresh contract by his current employers.

Bolton Wanderers were linked with a move in January for the Dons midfielder, who is out of contract this summer at Plough Lane. The London club have been relegated and will be in League Two next season.

Wanderers ultimately did not go for Hartigan's services in the previous transfer window. Reinforcements in central midfield were instead obtained from Rochdale in the form of Aaron Morley and Kyle Dempsey from Gillingham by Ian Evatt.

The Wanderers boss praised Hartigan and said before the club's home clash in February as a 'really talented' player. Evatt included Ayoub Assal and Jack Rudoni, the latter of whom is being released by the Dons, in that bracket too.

AFC Wimbledon, who have recently appointed Johnnie Jackson as the club's new boss, released their retained list earlier this month. Hartigan was among several players the Plough Lane side had offered fresh terms to and had discussions with.

Reports from earlier this month suggested Blackpool and Preston North End are tracking AFC Wimbledon midfielder. New Championship side Rotherham United were also mentioned as having an interest in the 22-year-old.

But it appears that Hartigan will become a free agent this summer, as London News Online reports that he is expected to move on and that he has been linked with both Wanderers and Blackpool. He made 152 first team appearances for the Wombles and turned out 42 times this campaign.
