Midfielder Erik ten Hag rejected set for Manchester United reunion as transfer sealed

Former Manchester United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has sealed a move to Turkish club Fenerbahce.

The defensive-midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Old Trafford from Fiorentina, has joined the Super Lig club on a season-long loan deal. The deal includes the option for Fenerbahce to sign him permanently next summer.

United signed the Moroccan international in a similar deal last summer, but the option to sign him on a permanent basis expired on June 30. The Reds were still mulling over the possibility of bringing him back to the club once that cut-off point had passed amid their search for midfield reinforcements. Amrabat, who made 17 starts for United, was not training with Fiorentina at the start of pre-season in a quest to try and force through an exit.

He has now linked up with former United manager Jose Mourinho, who was appointed as Fenerbahce boss in June. Like the Portuguese chief, Amrabat, who will now play alongside fellow former United midfielder Fred, can now look forward to a reunion with United this coming season in the Europa League.

The draw for the league phase of the competition was made on Friday and Fenerbahce are one of the eight teams United will face in the first stage of the competition. A date has not yet been confirmed for the fixture, but it will take place in Turkey.

Amrabat, following last season's FA Cup final, confirmed he would be open to staying at Old Trafford on a permanent basis. He ended the season as a starter and was key in the triumph over Manchester City at Wembley.

He told Ziggo Sport: "Do I already know what I'm going to do next year? No. We are going to talk.
