Middlesbrough interested in deal for Europe-based 27-year-old
Middlesbrough are interested in signing Toulouse striker Rhys Healey, a report from TeamTalk has claimed.
Healey, who joined Toulouse from MK Dons back in the summer of 2020, has scored 30 goals in 62 appearances in all competitions for his current club.
Toulouse currently sit top of the French second-tier, with Healey the joint leading scorer in the division at this moment in time.
Now it seems as though that is attracting plenty of attention from back in England, as clubs already start to turn some of their focus towards the summer transfer window.
According to this latest update, Middlesbrough are now taking a keen interest in the 27-year-old, whose goalscoring exploits saw him linked with Premier League side West Ham towards the end of January.
As things stand, there are around 18 months remaining on Healey’s contract with Toulouse, securing his future at the club until the end of the 2022/23 season.
Middlesbrough currently sit sixth in the Championship table, nine points adrift of the automatic promotion places, ahead of their trip Ashton Gate to face Bristol City on Saturday afternoon.
The Verdict
This could be a rather good signing for Middlesbrough you feel.
Despite their impressive form since the appointment of Chris Wilder, the club have still lacked a goalscorer this season, with no player scoring more than seven league goals during the campaign.
With Andraz Sporar only on loan as well, a new striker could be something of a priority for the club as well, and Healey’s record for Toulouse suggests he has the potential to help fill that void.
But if top-flight clubs continue to take an interest in the 27-year-old, then ‘Boro themselves may need to secure promotion to the Premier League if they are to get this
