Middlesbrough confirm temporary departure of winger

Folarin, 21, has joined Scottish Championship side Queen of the South on loan until the end of the season, according to the club’s official website. 

The winger, much like Isaiah Jones, joined the club from non-league side Tooting & Mitcham United.

He made four senior appearances last season for Boro, and even earned his first goal for the club against Brentford in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup. 

Two of those appearances came in last season’s Championship campaign, but he has been unable to break into the side in 2021-22.

Injury has ruled him out of gaining opportunities in the team this season. However, he was fit to play in both of Middlesbrough’s U23s side’s last two games. 

Queen of the South are managed by a former Middlesbrough player in Allan Johnston, who also took Jones under his wing, as well as goalkeeper Sol Brynn, during the last 12 months. 

Middlesbrough are currently fighting for a play-off place, with Chris Wilder’s side now eighth in the Championship. 

Their recent 1-0 loss to Blackburn Rovers saw their four game winning run come to an end. Next up for Boro is the visit of Coventry City to the Riverside on January 29. 

This is a good move for Folarin. Middlesbrough clearly see the Scottish side as a valuable testing ground for their young players. 

Jones and Brynn both enjoyed a successful stint with the club, so Folarin will be hoping to continue this trend for the club.

Johnston has been a useful mentor for these players, given his own experience with the club. 

If Folarin can prove himself for the remainder of the season then there is every chance he will get more opportunities in the senior Middlesbrough side next season.
