Mickey Thomas on 'fantastic' Wrexham and the Wales star that reminds him of Cafu

Former Wrexham AFC and Wales midfielder Mickey Thomas believes that fans of both club and country have reason to feel optimistic at the moment. With the Dragons going for promotion and the national side aiming to reach their first World Cup since 1958, Thomas is excited about what the next few months could bring.

In an interview with North Wales Live Sport, Thomas gave his opinions on a range of subjects- including his thoughts on club and country, his views on Wrexham's long suffering fanbase and also the North Wales youngster who reminds him of Brazilian legend Cafu.

Thomas needs no introduction to Wrexham and Wales fans, with the Mochdre native having played nearly 300 games for the Reds as well as winning 51 caps for his country. Now 67, Thomas still regularly attends Wrexham and Wales games in his role as a BBC commentator and pundit.

On Wrexham, Thomas said: "The main focus is on promotion, after 14 years we need to make this happen- we're in a magnificent position at this moment in time."

"It might still be automatic promotion, you never know, but if it isn't we're certainly going to get a home play off semi final.

"It would mean the world to me to see Wrexham get promoted but more so for the fans who have stood by the club through thick and thin. It's great to see the new fans on board and that's natural with the takeover, but for the hardcore who have been through it all - that's who deserve success."

Thomas was present for Wrexham's comprehensive victory against Barnet on Tuesday night. He says he has seen enough to believe that the Dragons are heading in the right direction.
