Mick Schumacher gives health update after big shunt in Saudi qualifying

Haas driver Mick Schumacher has revealed that he is feeling totally fine and would have been okay to drive this evening at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, had his team been able to put a car together in time for the race.

The young German was pushing hard in qualifying at the Jeddah Street Circuit as he hunted a first-ever appearance in Q3 but just slightly went over the edge and found himself flying into the wall, in a crash at around 170mph with an impact force of 33G.

He was clearly shaken up by the impact as he moved gingerly in his car after the crash and, indeed, he was lifted out of the car by medical staff before being taken to hospital for precautionary checks.

Thankfully, he remained conscious throughout and a lack of physical injuries on the outside was followed up by him being given the all-clear later on in the evening after he had had said scans.

Indeed, he is back at the track today ahead of the Grand Prix but will have a watching brief only, as team-mate Kevin Magnussen looks to get more points on the board for the Haas team this evening.

Medically, he has said he feels fit enough to drive but, given the sheer amount of damage that the crash inflicted on his Haas car, his team decided that they would instead regroup and rebuild for the Australian Grand Prix in two weeks from now, rather than trying to rush a fix for lights out tonight at 6pm.

Speaking to F1 ahead of the race earlier today, meanwhile, Mick revealed he was feeling just fine and looking forward to getting back behind the wheel when we return to Melbourne in a fortnight:
