Mick Kennedy 'good fit' for East Kilbride, says club's interim manager

East Kilbride interim boss Martin Fellowes reckons the appointment of Mick Kennedy as the club's new permanent manager is a "good fit" and hopes the ex-Darvel boss can be the man to finally lead Kilby to the SPFL.

Lanarkshire Live Sport revealed earlier this month that EK wanted Kennedy to lead them for next season and his appointment was confirmed on Saturday night, with ex-Broomhill boss and Open Goal podcast host Si Ferry coming in as his assistant.

Kennedy won't take the reins officially until the end of the season and Fellowes, who was interviewed for the role himself, will continue to lead the team for the duration of their Lowland League Cup defence, which kicks-off on Saturday away to Gretna in round one.

Having been in with the bricks at K-Park for almost a decade, Fellowes hopes the club's ninth permanent manager in 10 years will be the one to lead them to League Two.

He said: "The club have made a good appointment with Mick and Si coming in. Mick has the experience in the non-league side of things and Si has a wee bit of managerial experience now to go with his playing and coaching experience.

"I think they will be a good fit for the club.

"It is all really positive and hopefully they can be the ones to kick the club on.

"We hoped it was going to be this season, but hopefully it is next season now.

"I had a good chat with Mick and there's things he will be sorting in the background [while Fellowes takes the team].

"It is 100 miles per hour at the moment and I know he will be itching to get started.

"I was interviewed last week and it all went well from my point of view, but, hopefully, I can support him in this process as much as possible."

A flurry of fresh faces are expected to follow Kennedy into K-Park.
