Michael van Gerwen's 9-darter in 2019 one of the most unorthodox ever

Michael van Gerwen hit an incredible nine-darter without a 180 in a crazy Players Championship event two years ago.

The 29-year-old hit a phenomenal nine darter where he produced a perfect game without scoring a 180 during a Players Championship event in February 2019.

The month of March 2019 was a tough one for the Dutch native, winning just one of four PL matches and suffering a shock defeat in the round of 64 to Mervyn King in the UK open.

None of that poor form mattered when he stepped up and won the first European Tour event of the year in Leverkusen.

Van Gerwen defeated Rob Cross in the final, averaging 104.76 as he won 8-6.

But the Dutchman’s highlight of the tournament came during his semi-final match against Mensur Suljovic.

The 29-year-old hit an even better nine darter in his match against Suljovic.

Van Gerwen left 147 after hitting 180 and 174 in his first two visits, instead of going the conventional route of T20-T17-D18, he challenged himself and went T19-Bull-D20.

While hitting this nine darter, he wrote his name in the history books as be became the first player ever to hit two nine-darters on European tour.
