Michael Owen makes Man City vs Sporting score prediction

Michael Owen has predicted that Man City will continue their dominance over Sporting when the two sides meet again in the Champions League tonight (Wednesday).

City host the Portuguese side at the Etihad in the second leg of their European last 16 tie, holding a dominant 5-0 lead after the first leg in Lisbon. Bernardo Silva's brace and goals from Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling all-but confirmed City would book a quarter-final spot and tonight's game in Manchester ought just to be a formality.

That is certainly the opinion of former Manchester United and Liverpool striker Owen, who predicted another straightforward evening for Pep Guardiola's side. City are still on a high from beating United 4-1 in the derby at the weekend and, although Guardiola is expected to rotate his line up this evening, Owen foresees a solid victory.

Speaking to BetVictor, he said: “City were brilliant in Lisbon and already have one foot in the next round.

“I don’t think we will see quite as many goals here, it will be difficult to replicate that performance. Pep may even rest a few players, but City will still cruise this. 3-0.”

Bayern Munich and Liverpool became the first sides to secure their last eight spots with aggregate victories over RB Salzburg and Inter Milan, which were completed on Tuesday night. Real Madrid and Paris Saint-German face off in their second leg tonight, with the French side 1-0 up after the first game in Paris.
