Michael Conlan and Leigh Wood share backstage moment after massive KO

Following a 12 round war and devastating knockout, Michael Conlan and Leigh Wood met backstage to show respect for each other.

Weeks of intense build up between the two featherweight rivals reached boiling point last night in a thrilling contest.

Conlan, a bronze medallist at the 2012 Olympic Games, started the fight in spectacular fashion by knocking Wood down with a wicked left hand.

Wood showed brilliant powers of recovery to survive the next few rounds, however, the Irishman continued to dominate the contest with sleek boxing skills, speed and superb counterpunching.

The home fighter from Nottingham grew into the fight as it reached the latter rounds and was rewarded for his heart and perseverance with a controversial knockdown in the 11th round.

Still, with one round to go it was clear that Conlan had done enough to win the bout and become the new WBA regular champion.
