Michael Chandler talks ‘crazy’ UFC 280 main event odds

Charles Oliveira vs Islam Makhachev is set to be one of the biggest UFC title fights of 2022, and now 155-pound contender Michael Chandler has given his take on the UFC 280 main event.

Chandler is coming off an impressive KO win over Tony Ferguson and he will be heading to the octagon himself at UFC 281 to face Dustin Poirier.

As one of the top-5 ranked Lightweight contenders, Chandler will of course be keeping a close eye on proceedings at UFC 280 as he hopes to face either Oliveira or Makhachev down the line!

Here is what Michael Chandler had to say with regard to the massive UFC 280 main event between Charles Oliviera and Islam Makhachev.

Speaking to MMAJunkie, Chandler stated that it is ‘crazy’ that Oliveira is entering the octagon as the underdog against Makhachev.

He said: “Charles has the upper hand, in my opinion. I think it’s crazy that he’s an underdog, but I do think Islam has the tools to be able to win. So we’ll see what happens on Oct. 22. I’ll be watching that very intensely, and I hope to face the winner.

“You definitely can’t say that Islam is unproven, but you definitely can say – I think there’s a certain mystique, there’s this certain correlation that we want to make between Khabib (Nurmagomedov) and Islam, and then you have (coach) Javier Mendez coming out and saying that Islam is better than Khabib. 

“You’ve got Khabib saying that Islam is better than Khabib. You’ve got this big hype machine coming up.”

Chandler vs Oliviera or Makhachev would certainly be a great main event in 2023, so hopefully, it will come to pass!
