UFC 280: Islam Makhachev ready to 'take over Khabib's legacy' as lightweight champion

Islam Makhachev is ready to “take over Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s legacy” as UFC lightweight champion as he prepares to face Charles Oliveira.

The 31-year-old is a long-time training partner of UFC Hall of Famer Nurmagomedov and was a student of his late father, Abdulmanap.

“As long as you don’t take damage and you keep improving step-by-step. I’ve never seen a champion get worst once they win the title; I’ve seen them get better. And that’ll be the case with Islam also.”
