Michael Carrick press conference live Manchester United updates and team news ahead of Man City

Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick will address the media this afternoon ahead of the Manchester derby.

Carrick was appointed as head coach after Darren Fletcher's brief spell in charge. The 44-year-old will now take control of the squad for the remainder of the season, starting with tomorrow's clash at Old Trafford.

United's decision-makers met at Carrington this week. A long-term successor is expected to be appointed in the summer. On top of questions surrounding his job, there is also the small matter of a clash with City.

Carrick took charge of training for the first time on Wednesday and will be pleased to see an almost full-strength squad, with Bryan Mbeumo and Amad having returned from AFCON.

Matthijs de Ligt did not train with the group and remains sidelined with a back injury. Shea Lacey took part in the session, but he is suspended for the visit of Pep Guardiola's side.

Hello and welcome to our press conference blog.

This will be Carrick's first chance to speak to the media since he was appointed interim head coach.

United are expected to appoint a permanent replacement for Amorim in the summer. However, whether that plan changes if Carrick excels remains to be seen. Only qualification for next season's Champions League will be seen as a success between now and the end of the season. The road towards that starts tomorrow lunchtime.

Stay tuned for updates from Carrick's press conference...
