Michael Beale makes claim on QPR interest in Millwall player

The Rangers boss has claimed there will be many clubs in the race to secure the signature of the 23-year old.

McNamara only has one year remaining on his contract with the Lions, which has already seen QPR put in offer to sign that player.

However, that initial bid was rejected by Millwall, but QPR are expected to table a significantly improved proposal in order to come to an agreement over a fee.

Rowett had claimed that the first offer fell well short of the club’s valuation of the right back.

But Beale refrained from commenting too much on their interest in McNamara out of respect for Millwall, but insisted that QPR will not be the only club interested in signing the Irishman.

“He’s their player, so I don’t want to get into that. It would be unfair of me to do that. If Gary did that with one of my players I wouldn’t like it,” said Beale, via West London Sport.

“He’s a very, very good full-back. I think everyone knows that and he’s in the last year of his deal so there will be interest from other clubs.

“For some reason we’ve been made public, our interest. I don’t quite know why that is but again he’s Millwall’s player and until he isn’t Millwall’s player, I wouldn’t want to comment.”

The defender played 37 times in the Championship last season for Rowett’s side as they earned a 9th place finish.

It was his first full breakout season for the team having emerged as a solid squad player the campaign previously.

He has also spent stints on loan at St Johnstone and Newport County.

Both teams kick off their upcoming season on July 30.

These public back and forth comments between Millwall and QPR are unusual given the level of interest in the player.
