Micah Richards admits he was left 'devastated' by Man City transfer decision

Micah Richards has said he's been left devastated by Manchester City's decision to sell Cole Palmer to Chelsea.

The young winger has been a revelation since he joined Mauricio Pochettino's side in a £42.5million move on transfer deadline day. At times, he has dragged the West Londoners forward kicking and screaming, contributing 21 Premier League goals and 10 assists in 32 appearances.

While Pep Guardiola has got little wrong at the Etihad Stadium, many City fans think letting their former academy player go was a huge mistake. While he acknowledges the reason why Guardiola allowed Palmer to move to Stamford Bridge, Richards, who made 245 appearances for the Citizens, admits he was left heartbroken by his exit.

While speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Richards said: “Cole Palmer, I was devastated when he left. I think it’s because I’ve seen him come through the youth and I knew how good he was."

When asked if Richards ever saw the talent the midfielder is producing at Chelsea, Richards replied: “I saw that yes, but the other side to his game in terms of the pressing, I didn’t think he would fit into the Manchester City system.

“He’s just a technical genius. [Phil] Foden, he’s got that, but he can also run about and I think that was the difference.”
