Miami pokes fun at Florida State's stadium power outage - ESPN

Just under an hour after the lights went out at Florida State's Doak Campbell Stadium before its game against SMU on Monday night, the Seminoles' in-state rival poked fun at the dilemma with a petty social media post.

After a power outage resulted in the stadium's lights going out delayed the start of Florida State-SMU, Miami took advantage of the moment.

The Hurricanes posted a video of their home field at Hard Rock Stadium that, at first glance, seemed ordinary. But the video included a dark field with spotlights moving across the field, indicating a working power system.

Miami took it a step further in the caption, writing: «The lights are ON at our house» with a winking emoji and «See YOU at Hard Rock on Thursday,» referring to the team's home opener. Of course, at the time of Miami's post, Florida State's stadium still faced a power outage.

Eventually, the Seminoles' stadium power returned, though with limitations. There would be no coach-to-player communication, no iPads, no PA announcer and no scoreboard, according to ESPN's Taylor McGregor.

Florida State and SMU wound up kicking off at 9:15 p.m. local time, after an original scheduled start of 7:30 p.m., which is when the lights went out. Each team had already run out of its respective locker rooms, warmed up and headed to the sidelines in preparation for kickoff.

But the outage forced the teams back inside and gave Miami an early-season opportunity to troll its rivals. The two will settle it on the field at Hard Rock Stadium on Oct. 17.
