Miami Open news: What happened to the top seeds in the women’s competition?

The Miami Open is now heading into it’s fourth round ties in the women’s tournament, but a lot of top seeds have already fallen by the way side and have failed to progress into the latter stages of the competition.

Iga Swiatek's time has come

Second seed and winner of the Indian Wells Masters world No 1 Iga Swiatek is still in with a chance of winning, as well as fifth seed Spainard Paula Badosa but she is yet to play her third round match.

However, a lot of big names are already out of the tournament.

Top seed Aryna Sabalenka was given a bye for the opening round but she couldn’t beat her Romanian opponent Irina-Camelia Begu to progress to the round of 32.

British youngster Emma Raducanu was seeded 11th but she crashed out of the tournament in the second round after receiving a bye for the first round as well.

The 19-year-old was up against Katerina Siniakova from the Czech Republic but she was beat 6-3, 4-6, 5-7 and still only has two wins under her belt since the start of her first full season on the WTA Tour.

Raducanu’s US Open final opponent, Leylah Fernandez has also bowed out of the competition due to her loss at the hands of Karolina Muchova in the round of 64 despite being the 18th seed.

Maria Sakkari, who reached the final of the BNP Paribas Open before getting beaten by Swiatek, won’t recreate her performance in California as the Greek suffered a loss
