Met Office weather maps show when wall of rain will hit UK this weekend

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning covering large parts of England and Wales, including Greater Manchester.

The yellow warning, will be in effect from 3pm on Saturday, February 17 to 6pm on Sunday, February 18. Some major cities affected by the warning include Manchester, Cardiff, London, and Newcastle upon Tyne.

The warning means there will be significant disruptions to public transport, including buses and trains. Flooding is also likely in some homes covered by the warning.

On Saturday, when the warning starts, large portions of rain will move in from the west, bringing up to around 4mm of rain an hour in coastal areas. By 6pm the rainfall will have moved further inland, affecting the majority of England Wales' major cities.

In Greater Manchester, rainfall of more than 4mm an hour is expected in some parts. The Met Office said for Saturday's North West forecast: "Generally cloudy with perhaps some drizzle or light showers and mist at times, especially over higher ground. Perhaps a few brighter interludes. Heavy rain arriving later and turning breezier. Mild. Maximum temperature 14 °C."

It comes as a large wall of rain is set to batter the UK across the weekend. According to the Met Office's weather map, the massive wall of rain is set to begin approaching the UK at around 6pm.

Following this, it will progressively move closer throughout the evening, before hitting the mainland at around 12am the following morning. The Met Office warned that the North West of England will see "heavy rain" in the later owers with moderately warm temperatures as high as 14C.
