Met Office issues three more UK snow warnings as Arctic blast continues

The Met Office has issued three new snow warnings for parts of the UK as cold Arctic air continues to sweep the nation.

Millions woke up to a dusting of snow on Tuesday morning with the wintry weather causing widespread disruption - closing schools, roads and cancelling trains.

The Met Office has now issued new yellow warnings of snow and ice which cover parts of Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland and England.

A warning which stretches along the east coast from southeast Scotland to Norfolf is in place from 6pm on Tuesaday to 12pm on Wendesday. This alert warnings of 2-3cm of snow with up to 10cm on higher ground.

Another yellow warning is in place for Northern Ireland from 6pm on Tuesday to 10am on Wednesday. This alert warns of difficulty travelling due to 1-2cm of snow in places and 5cm over higher ground.

A third warning has been issued covering a large stretch of northern, central and southern Wales, from midnight tonight to 12pm on Wednesday. This warns of 1-2cm of snow in places and 5cm over higher ground.

A warning covering northern Scotland and Shetland that was issued on Monday - warning of up to 20cm of snow - also remains in force until 10am on Wednesday.

A number of schools in England and Wales were closed on Tuesday due to the conditions following Monday night's snow showers.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued the first amber cold weather health alert of the season, warning conditions could be dangerous for vulnerable people, including the elderly.
