Messi, Rooney, Payet: 11 players have 100 goals and 100 assists in a single league

Dimitri Payet has become the first player in Ligue 1 history to score 100 goals as well as register 100 assists.

The Marseille star scored a penalty during his side’s 2-1 defeat to Ajaccio on Saturday.

While it was a shock defeat for Les Phoceens, Payet entered the history books at the age of 35.

Payet has scored in France’s top-flight for Nantes, Saint-Etienne, Lille and Marseille taking his tally to 100 goals, as well as his 113 assists.

Incredible record.

While he’s the first to achieve that feat in Ligue 1, he joins 10 other players who have done just that in other leagues around the world.

In fact, according to statistics from FBREF, Payet is the 11th player to score 100+ goals and provide 100+ assists in a single league.

Before we give you a rundown of the other 10 players, it’s worth noting that FBREF’s statistics for assists pre-2000 are not complete for most leagues. It’s also worth noting that for a certain Francesco Totti, there are no assist statistics from 1992/93 to 1997/98, where he played 115 Serie A games for AS Roma so the assist numbers are probably much higher.

Impressive.

Can we just take a second to appreciate Lionel Messi’s goal+assist per game ratio. He scored or provided an assist 1.285 times every game during his spell in La Liga. In short, he had 665 goal contributions in 519 matches.

But he isn’t the only player to have achieved the feat in La Liga with Karim Benzema also joining the club recently with 104 assists to go with his 222 goals.

Totti is the only player to have done it in Serie A for Roma with 250 goals and at least 139 assists.

Thomas Muller is also the solitary player to have scored at least 100 goals and registered at least 100 assists in Bundesliga history with Bayern Munich.
