Mercedes renew Red Bull rivalry with cheeky car launch tweet

Mercedes and Red Bull gave us a brilliant 2021 Formula 1 season last year and the rivalry between the two teams appears ready to ignite in 2022, after the Silver Arrows posted a cheeky tweet in response to Red Bull’s RB18 car launch.

The two teams went toe-to-toe on and off of the circuit last year as Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen fought for the world championship right up until, infamously, the final lap of the season in Abu Dhabi.

In the end, Verstappen took the Drivers’ crown whilst Mercedes earned their eighth straight Constructors’ title and so, in some ways, the spoils were shared in 2021.

Full focus now, though, is on 2022 with new technical regulations coming into force and there was naturally a sense of intrigue around Red Bull revealing their new car for the coming campaign with that in mind.

On unveiling the RB18, though, many commented that the team had perhaps opted to reveal their new livery and little more, with a ‘show 2022 car’ decked out in the iconic blue, red and yellow colours of the team.

Indeed, Christian Horner himself said the car will look a great deal different come the first Grand Prix in Bahrain in March and it’s clear that, with new regulations coming in, the team wants to try and keep any technical advantages they have found under wraps for as long as possible.

Mercedes were watching on, too, and put out this tweet that has received over 100k likes:

Mercedes reveal their W13 car on February 18th and it’ll be fascinating to see whether they’ve done the same as Red Bull in trying to keep certain developments away from prying eyes for now.
