Mercedes boss Toto Wolff reveals Pep Guardiola advice helped through Lewis Hamilton exit
Formula One boss Toto Wolff has revealed that he once received great advice from Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on how to deal with driver departures.
Wolff has been the team principal and co-owner of Mercedes F1 since 2013, and although they have struggled on track in the past few seasons, the 52-year-old has been a key part of a golden era for the manufacturer.
With the help of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, Wolff led the team to eight consecutive constructors titles between 2014 and 2021. His long-term success somewhat mirrors that of his pal Guardiola, who has lifted six Premier League titles since arriving in England.

Both have had to deal with their drivers and players, and after a shock announcement earlier this year that F1 legend Hamilton would be moving to Ferrari in 2025, Wolff revealed that advice from Guardiola has helped him deal with exits.
"I had a chat with Pep Guardiola a long time ago, he’s a friend, and I said ‘What do you do if this and that player leaves?’,” said Wolff while appearing on the High-Performance podcast.
"He said ‘What do you mean, what do I do?’ And I said ‘Well, do you try to convince them to stay?’ And he said ‘No. If somebody thinks they can play elsewhere better, then you just have to let them go.’
"It is something that I embrace the same way here. If somebody wants to go, then lets make it as good as possible for each of the parties."
