Members of Marchmount Bowling Club in Dumfries have a great time at their prizegiving night

A great turnout of around 70 member and friends turned out for Marchmount Bowling Club’s annual prizegiving night and social evening on Saturday, October 19.

Club president Alan Glendinning welcomed everyone and gave a brief review of the season’s activities. It has been another busy year for the club, including the try bowls events to encourage people to take up the game which again proved very popular.

Last year’s over 55 national gents champions represented Scotland at the British Isles Championships this year and once again reached the national finals, along with Marchmount’s gents triples. The gents Top 5 and Top 10 teams reached the semi-finals of these national competitions and on a local basis Marchmount had success in the Dumfries Bowling Association Gents Premier League, District 31 League play-off winners, Reserve League, Empire Trophy, Top 5, and semi-finalists in the Top 10.

The club’s ladies won their section of the ladies league, qualifying for the final stages and six ladies from the club represented the South of Scotland Women’s Bowling Association County Team during the season.

The club had also continued to support charities, with a donation of £455 made to Nith Inshore Rescue, raised at the annual Macauley Mcqueen Memorial competition and 12 members completed the Mighty Stride (20.5 miles) at the Edinburgh Kilt Walk, raising £2700 for the club’s nominated charity for the year, Dumfries and Galloway Sands.
