Meet the Manchester taekwondo coach trying to impact disabled children's lives

A taekwondo coach from Manchester has used his 30 years worth of experience in the sport to coach disabled participants, featuring the opportunity to take part on the same mats as their Olympic and Paralympic heroes.

Jason Mayoh has been involved with taekwondo for 30 years, coaching the sport across Greater Manchester. He has worked with schools, disability groups and has over 100 students.

Manchester played host to the World Taekwondo Grand Prix over the weekend, providing a valuable qualification opportunity for elite athletes to reach next summer's Olympics and Paralympics in Paris. The Olympics will take place between July 26 and August 11, while the Paralympics will take centre stage between August 28 and September 8.

And for Mr. Mayoh, having a major event like the World Taekwondo Grand Prix can have a huge impact on people looking to take up and develop within the sport.

He said: "It has a huge impact, off the back of these events I often end up doing extra coaching in schools, with extra clubs and outside people contacting me saying they've seen the Grand Prix and want to set something up.

"Previously, we've had two schools involved with students with various disabilities and learning difficulties but at the end of it we went to GB Taekwondo to do a session with them, and they could see the GB team training, preparing for a big championship and the students got to walk along the venue and get on the mats and give it a go themselves.
