Elsewhere there was New Year's Day joy for a mum who suffered nine heart-breaking baby losses. Navdeep Kaur, 35, gave birth to a daughter just 36 minutes into the New Year.
Said her little girl was the 'best surprise' after the 7lb 9oz tot was born in Walsall, Nottinghamshire Live reports. The healthcare support assistant has polycystic ovarian disease, which means her ovaries produce an abnormal amount of male sex hormones called androgens.
Women with the condition carry an increased risk of having miscarriages and stillbirths. And after years of setbacks, Navdeep and her husband Iqbal Singh Kanwal had 'given up' hope of having another child to join their daughter Jaskirat, 10.
Navdeep said: "The baby is just the best surprise and I hope my story gives hope to others.”
